The discovery of platinum-bearing gold ore at the Boss mine, in southern Nevada, was brought to the attention of the Geological Survey by Mr. F. A. Hale, jr., in September, 1914. Some samples of the ore were submitted at the same time. These were assayed and found to be extraordinarily rich in gold, platinum, and palladium.
Rawhide was a mining town that exemplifies many of the towns which sprang up in Nevada during the silver and gold rushes in the state's history. Rawhide was less a town born on the actual finding of large silver or gold deposits, and more on the manipulation of greed and desire for "the next big thing".
The Meikle mine exploits one of the world's highest grade Carlin-type gold deposits with reserves of ca. 220 t gold at an average grade of 24.7 g/t. Locally, gold grades exceed 400 g/t. Several geologic events converged at Meikle to create these spectacular gold grades. Prior to mineralization, a Devonian hydrothermal system altered the Bootstrap limestone to Fe-rich dolomite.
The Rustler #2 Mine, Goldfield Nevada. This mine is where the miners at the famous Rogers Lease discovered exceedingly rich Gold ore, in just four months from 1906-1907, over 35,000 ounces of Gold was produced, in today's price of Gold, that would have a value of over 45 million dollars !!
A gorgeous, dendrite-like, alluvial Gold specimen from the National Mine area in the Columbia Mining District, California. Gold shows brilliant luster and a rich orangish-yellow color. Post-mineral movement has exhibited wear on the exposed Gold. Few % remnant, snow white Quartz matrix. Piece is .
7 Places In Nevada Where You Can Still Pan For Gold And Silver. Panning for gold or silver is a type of traditional, placer mining where gold or silver ore is extracted from a placer deposit .

In some districts, fine gold is all there is - and as a result, there are basically no placers formed. This is the main reason why some rich hard rock gold districts don't have much in the way of associated placers. The most productive gold vein district in Nevada (not including the Carlin type deposits.
Grinding steel balls, used to extract gold and other precious metals in ore mineral processing, are seen at the Goldstrike autoclave at Nevada Gold Mines' Carlin operation on Thursday, Oct. 24, 2019.
C alifornia's rich gold mining heritage should not end with 'historical' mining: the State's geology and mining history supports that rich deposits remain to be found, and many deposits that were mined left unexplored resources in place. But the naivety of the public and green movements, over-regulation by bureaucracies, costs and liabilities of mining, and exploration costs have left the ...
Gold ore was first discovered in Searchlight by Paiute Indians in 1870, 55 miles south of Las Vegas, but it was not until 1897, when G.F. Colton, a notable prospector, discovered a rich gold vein and word spread, that Searchlight boomed. The following year, the mining district was fully organized.
The Paradise Peak gold-silver-mercury deposit is located in the Fairplay District of north-western Nye County, south-western Nevada, USA. It is approximately 45 km to the south-east of the Rawhide mine and 85 km due west of Round Mountain. The Paradise Creek mineralisation is hosted by Oligocene to Miocene andesitic and rhyolitic volcanic rocks within which it is broadly stratabound.
If you're new to prospecting, there's plenty of gold panning in Nevada to be had. Gold panning for placer gold is about the easiest and least expensive way to start gold prospecting. Find some promising soil—the best is black sand from a riverbed—put it in a gold pan, add water, and you are in business.
Specimen gold is generally found and retrieved from lode gold deposits. These are usually high-grade occurences found in quartz veins, or less commonly calcite. Gold may also be found as specimens in, or with iron oxides, adularia (a low-temperature feldspar), sulfides, and with other silica-rich minerals such as tourmaline, amythest, or clay minerals.

There is still gold in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada, at the California State Mining and Mineral Museum, in historic Mariposa. This is where explorers John C. Fremont and Kit Carson found the rich Mariposa Vein and opened the first mill to crush ore and extract gold in California.
THIS Gold in 2000volume is organized around a classification of hypogene gold deposits that emphasizes their tectonic setting and relative time of formation compared to their host rocks and other gold deposit types (e.g., Sawkins, 1972, 1990; Groves et al., 1998; Kerrich et al., 2000).The temporal division of orogenic gold deposits into Archean, Proterozoic, and Phanerozoic follows closely the ...
Abstract:Carlin-type Au deposits in Nevada have huge Au endowments that have made the state, and the United States, one of the leading Au producers in the world. Forty years of mining and numerous studies have provided a detailed geologic picture of the deposits, yeta comprehensive and widely accepted genetic model remains elusive.

Geology. The Carlin type deposits show enrichment in the elements gold, arsenic, antimony, mercury, thallium and barium. This enrichment is created by hydrothermal circulation with a temperature of up to 300 °C. The underlying rocks out of which the minerals are dissolved are normally silty carbonates, although also silicates and other sediments are possible.
Silver mining in Nevada, a state of the United States, began in 1858 with the discovery of the Comstock Lode, the first major silver-mining district in the United States. Nevada calls itself the "Silver State." Nevada is the nation's second-largest producer of silver, after Alaska. In 2014 Nevada .
