Aug 06, 2003· I am just getting started in machining. I would like to buy a milling machine to learn on. I looked into more expensive models, but they have features I wont even use (right now) And most I could not buy anyway. I know Harbor Freight is not really liked around here but I just thought I would ask if this would be a good beginners machine. Thanks

The effort of converting a manual mill to CNC isn't trivial, and starting with a round column mill means you're going to end up with a white elephant when you're done. Get the mill if it's a good deal, and maybe even mount some stepper motors on the X&Y axis with belts just to play around and use them as power feeds.
